Should they stick to business cards? !!! print materials lot of people by business cards there and actually bought business cards there myself Vistaprint is a great example the company that offers website services even though it's not a main part of their business obviously preteen is their main business but probably because so many people who buy Prandin also may need a website they offer website services as a value and get photos printed online I'm always skeptical of companies like this om and the quality of their service because they're typically just added on to make another sale a lot of times the quality %uh the website service are offering is not good and it has been sure this the print in the past if you're just a goatee Yellowpages dot com start cooking around some other web sites for the listings on their he probably find a number of them are using Vista Print DICOM so for that reason I wanted to do this review NC how good the Vistaprint website builder is I should note that Vistaprint just in the last year purchased: webs dot com which is a popular website builder company i'd never tested Vistaprint website builder in the past but I believe since purchasing webs dot com Dave can integrated the web's dot com website builder in so I believe their service is much better now than it has been in the past so let's get right into it I'm logged in to my Vistaprint account where I could purchase all other printing services but I did sign up for a free trial love their website service so I spent an hour to playing with their website builder in creating a web sites on the show you what I've done and show you how their website builder works offer small note that they do give you a domain name and VP web dot com a sub-domain so you'll get that with any account and you can link your own domain name to the account but I have not done that yet so the first step would be to click edit website and that will bring you into the website builder dashboard up at the top the dashboard link will take you back to your Vistaprint account builder is what we're currently on and that click on theme and you can't see the options they give you for your the my very selected a theme in you see here I can customize some other colors and you'll see them change live on the screen and the theme color in a few accent colors and I can also change title intact so they do give you some options for customizing your theme once you've chosen it and you can also select a brand new theme so this is the theme gallery and you can see the different designs that they give you this probably one of the downsides too many website builders including investor print as you'll see some other the designs are you know very template-based they don't look very modern and once your site is published people will probably be able to tell that it's a template and it looks a little cheap so it's a major downside to many website builders but there are some website dollars out there that provide very modern themes that will look much better than these you can click any these themes too quickly apply the theme: or you can click Preview just to view what your current site would look like if you were to apply that theme so here's what this one would look like if I were to apply and though if you want to apply the theme you simply click the Apply theme button and you can change teams at anytime no go back to say biller I'm just going to keep this theme that I've been working with up at the top the last link is called pages in here's where you'll create pages you can click add a new page you can also drag these to reorder them and you can rename the page in change some the Sedins the page like meta tags you can password-protect or hide it from the main navigation so in the main area of the website builder you'll see your website displayed live in all these teams have pre-populated content area so you see here I can click on this to change the image and there's text entered already so you simply click on it and you can select this taxed and edit the text all these content elements are very easy to drag around and change the arrangement to them if you see I just grab this one and move it above their head and you can also click the red delete I can to delete a content area very easily so overall the website builders very easy to use I'll show you how easy it is to customize this image at the top let's say I want to add my logo to the top header area here I would click in a la meet at the entire hatter cited select this taxed could change the font in feature to and some animation movement your site using an image slider in this content area down here was pre-populated with images and tax so you can easily change these images at different ones by delete that separate a nice feature that I don't see and too many website builders at a table which it so I can drag a table up here and easily add columns and rows neck and dragged the column to change their alignment I can up type in the text here can also change the Sedins furrow border colors turn the border on an off change the header so that's a pretty nice feature to easily add a table to your website and like I said I don't see that on too many website builders divider widget here that simply adds a horizontal rule with the style to it I noticed they don't give it to many different styles are all kind of the is elegant looking styles which people may or may not be able to use there's also a spacer widget which is kinda nice because it allows you to just and blank space and you can drag the handle to you change them on MySpace go to the next category which its urs media we've already seen these ones except for audio you can easily add an audio file to your say under the social category their social links Twitter feed which use on my home page and you can add some other Facebook lightbox comments follow I can for Twitter and then some share buttons for commerce they give you the ability to add Pay Pal buttons and under the Other category they give you custom html which allow you to just and any HTML code into your website as a element and then maps and photos which we've already seen if you're done making all the changes to website you just hit publish in operation corner and that's gonna make all your changes live on your site now I'm gonna go over to my live side and web eminence dot VP web doc am just to show you what the site looks like you can see some the changes I made like the color to the header and the logo added to the operating in corner here's the slider image that show into images one of them i havent set yet the rest to the home page you click on the About page you'll see some %uh the edits and made on that page there's the map I added with the table with the two columns here you can see the space I was added in one of the um spacers here's how the slideshow works the Twitter Widget and there's a three buttons and I created and the youtube link the next page is a store and I don't have the items there but here you can kinda see what that would look like the blog also has no entries but here's where your blog post would show up the next pages gallery in here you can see if you click on this album that opens a nice large slideshow people can click through your pictures and then the last pages contact rant my contact form so there's a complete their website as you can see it doesn't take too long to get a website like this up and running in obviously I didn't take too much time to customize the text or the pictures so that would probably take more time for you if you create your own website but overall it's pretty easy to use and it wouldn't take you more than a couple hours to get a website that looks something like this: the one downside like I mention is probably the quality of the designs I'd say they're okay but there nothin really special they're not very modern in their design and they don't look like custom designs they look like templates so compared to some other website builders like we we for example are Squarespace those ball offer a much more modern designs that are more impressive I or you can get a wordpress site using WordPress themes and you're going to end up with a much more professional in custom looking website so thanks for watching this video I hope that it was helpful English English - Hey guys, so a little while ago, I made a video about how to design a resume, and I got some requests asking if I could make a video How to Design a Business Card !!! about how to design business cards. So, that's what I'm doing right now. So, let's switch it up a little and start at the end. The final step is going to be to make a sweet music video about how awesome your new cards are. в™« Take a look at my card в™« My business card print online cards в™« I work so hard baby в™« 'Cause I'm a YouTube partner crazy в™« But how do we get to that point? So, the standard size for business cards is three and a half by two inches. It's really not very much space, so you need to figure out what purpose you'll be using the cards for and what information you need to put on the card. Will you being giving your cards to potential customers, to potential YouTube viewers, to someone who you want to hire you for a job? Think about what you want the recipient to get out of the card before you even sit down to design it. No matter what your use case, though, your business card should always match your other branding. Your website, resume, cover letter don't have to be identical, but they should look like they all belong to the same design family, whether that's consistent logos, photography, color scheme, typefaces. If someone picks up your card, they should be able to associate it with all the other material you put out there to represent yourself. You can keep it simple. That's totally fine. Or keep it more playful, whatever you think best represents you. So what information do you really need on the business card? It'll vary for everyone, but pretty much always, your name or company name. Maybe a slogan. And then just contact information. Email, website, twitter handle, YouTube channel. Depending on the size of your card, I recommend cutting it off at about four or five lines of text. But if you do include more, just make sure it doesn't get too cluttered. If you're a YouTuber, you might want to consider including a photo of your face on the back, since your face is kind of what you're selling. Just make sure it's a high quality photo and not a screenshot from like a And you know, there are so many different possibilities for how to design a business card, that it can get really overwhelming. But just try to stay focused on what it is you want to communicate, and hopefully that'll help you come up with some good design ideas. Just make sure that your layout and typography are impeccable. Business cards are so small and so minimalist that you really need to put a lot of thought into every single element. Make sure every word is spelled and positioned and kerned perfectly, because any mistake will be the only thing you're able to see when you're holding
cards in your hand. Also, don't be afraid to use small typography, just like I mentioned in the resumes video, no high school teacher is making you use
point Times New Roman anymore. Try a nice San Serif, maybe at six points, and just print it out to make sure it's still legible. Big text on a little card can just look horsey and amateur. So, bring your type down, and leave enough white space that still looks balanced and professional. Also, you could consider personalizing your cards somehow. I've seen some companies who just order blank, generic cards and then get each employee a rubber stamp so that they can just make as many as they need. Or you could sign them, or you could write something. In one of my previous card designs, I actually wrote what I was to the person I was giving it to, whether it's a graphic designer or a YouTuber. And everyone appreciates getting something unique and personalized. So now that you have your card design, you need to think about how many cards you actually need. If you're going to networking events every week, maybe you do need to buy cards at a time. But don't get sucked into those "Five million cards for "five dollars" deals if you're not actually going to use that many cards. Instead, put that money towards a quality print shop where you may get less cards, but the quality will be so much better. And you won't be representing yourself with cheap materials. If you don't put in the effort to make high quality business cards, what will make anyone else think that you do quality work anywhere else in your life? Just like you might buy a nice suit jacket or get a nice haircut to present yourself well to the world, your business card reflects on you the exact same way. There's actually this great blog post from awhile ago where this guy got the same card printed by five different companies and compared the quality and cost of each. Moo.com came in on top for quality, of course. They're all I ever use for my business cards these days. They are pretty pricy, but they do these really cute mini cards, as well as these really nice, thick cardstock cards. And they do this thing where you can print the same front on all of your cards but have all different backs. So, for my current cards, I got some with my face on them and then some with my design and crafting work, so that I can give them to different people, depending on how I want them to remember me. And finally, no business card how-to would be complete without mentioning those gimmicky business cards that always show up in those " Best Business Cards" blog posts. There's a thing inherently wrong with these types of cards, but if you decide to make yours like that, just make sure that your concept is strong enough that it's worth putting in the extra money and effort. Be aware that if your card is a weird size or an uncommon material or has lots of die-cuts or folds, that they can get lost or ruined when people drop them in their bags and desk drawers, so just make sure they're durable, too. And don't let your concept overwhelm your design. Don't get so obsessed with the gimmick that you lose sight of the core purpose of a business card, which is usually to communicate contact information. So, I hope this was useful for you guys.
